The Candles Recommended by Texas Monthly

This year, Alcott Candles were included as the top 25 gifts to give in 2025 by Texas Monthly. As a native Austinite, this is the highest honor Alcott has received yet. See what Texas Monthly had to say about us and learn more about the candle recommended by Texas Monthly below.

Here’s what Texas Monthly had to say about Alcott:

“This new candle maker from Austin names all of its wares after songs by Taylor Swift or the National (which makes sense, given Swift’s long-running collaboration with that band’s Aaron Dessner). This one feels especially Texan, with notes of leather, blood orange, and vanilla. It’s also a classic do good, feel good scenario: The brand donates 5 percent of every sale to an Austin-based nonprofit, including ones that support LGBTQ youth and sustainability.”

The Candle Texas Monthly recommended

While we like to think Texas Monthly recommended all our our candles, they specifically called out Cowboy Like Me. This candle was our top seller in 2025 and for good reason — with notes of leather, blood orange, and vanilla this candle is warm, luxurious and balanced. The sweetness of the vanilla balances out the richness of the leather while the citrusy notes of blood orange brighten the entire candle.

WHAT TEXAS MONTHLY LEFT OUT

The write-up in Texas Monthly mentioned that all our candles are named after songs by either Taylor Swift and The National, and the long time collaboration between Swift and Aaron Dessner, who is a member of The National. But did you know the name Alcott also comes from a collaboration between the two? That’s right, the name of Alcott Candles comes from a song off The National’s album First Two Pages of Frankenstein, featuring Taylor Swift.

It was also not mentioned in the gift guide, but we make playlists inspired by every scent and the song it’s named after. That means each candle you buy has an accompanying playlist it can be paired with to help create a whole vibe. And if you follow Alcott Candles on Spotify you can find our seasonal and other non-scent playlists (like a playlist that’s four hours exactly, the recommended candle burn time).
