Do Good: Meet the Austin Nonprofits We Support
We believe in a greener, brighter future. Part of that is a commitment to recyclable and reusable products in our packaging. But we also believe in giving back to our community. That’s why 5% of profits from every candle sale support an Austin nonprofit that shares some of our values. Learn a little bit more about what these nonprofits do, how you can get involved, and why we support them.
Austin Creative Reuse
Mission: Fostering conservation and reuse through creativity, education, and community building.
Why we support them: Austin Creative Reuse is part store, part community space, part thrifter’s dream. We love Austin Creative Reuse because they are committed to keeping materials and goods out of landfills as well as supporting educators and local artists. When you buy The Last Great American Dynasty and Quiet Light, you are supporting Austin Creative Reuse.
Get involved by: volunteering, shopping online, donating, and more.
Fund Texas Choice
Mission: Helping Texans equitably access abortion through safe, confidential, and comprehensive travel services and practical support.
Why we support them: People who need abortions in Texas need more help than ever thanks to draconian laws that have been passed. This organization provides concrete and practical assistance. Fund Texas Choice is based in Austin but supports Texans across the state because abortions are health care. When you buy Cruel Summer and Apartment Story, you are supporting Fund Texas Choice.
Get involved by: fundraising, championing abortion access, or donating.
Heartening
Mission: If unwanted items knew where they were needed, people would help them get there.
Why we support them: Heartening holds regular clothes swaps and sales to raise money to cover their operating costs, but most of what’s brought to the donation center is shared with other Austin nonprofits. They also are a great resource to help you find a cause that needs items you may be getting rid of anyway. When you buy All Too Well and Tropic Morning News, you are supporting Heartening.
Get involved by: volunteering, finding where to take unwanted items, or donating.
Healing with Horses
Mission: By creating space for healthy relationships between horses and humans, we help students learn transferable life skills in a safe, inclusive environment.
Why we support them: Healing with Horses serves mainly at-risk youth, veterans, and people with disabilities. Texas often ranks as one of the worst states for mental health care, so we’re happy to support a boots-on-the-ground nonprofit. When you buy Cowboy Like Me and Bloodbuzz Ohio, you are supporting Healing with Horses.
Get involved by: volunteering, going to an event, or donating.
Out Youth
Mission: Promoting the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being of sexual and gender minority youth so that they can openly and safely explore and affirm their identities.
Why we support them: Out Youth envisions a future where everyone can feel safe and comfortable being themselves, and we can definitely get behind that. They have a local drop-in center, support those 18 or older with social services, provide counseling, and so much more. When you buy Lavender Haze and This Is The Last Time, you are supporting Out Youth.
Get involved by: volunteering, hosting a fundraiser, or donating.
